Advancing the teaching of Portuguese in the United States since 2007
Founded in 2007, the American Organization of Teachers of Portuguese (AOTP) is dedicated exclusively to the teaching and promotion of Portuguese in the United States. We represent Portuguese teachers in K-12 schools, colleges and universities, and community and heritage language programs, and we support the creation and long-term growth of strong Portuguese programs across the country.
Our members share research, teaching materials, and classroom experience, and each edition of the World Conference on the Teaching of Portuguese (EMEP) brings them together with colleagues from across the Portuguese-speaking world. We treat Portuguese as a living social practice, spoken by more than 260 million people, and we work so that more students in the United States have the chance to learn it.
